Dancing In the Tree Tops, While Living in the Underworld
Water Colors and Acrylic Paint on Canvas
35" x 48"
This piece reminds me of the Antebellum South. In a period where cotton was king and it was to be portrayed as a glorious time to be celebrated. America tried to paint the picture of the slaves, being happy to serve their masters as they picked this crop. But there was an underworld where the slaves actually lived a totally different life of toil and struggle, just to stay alive. The glorious celebration was a lie and a farce. Do we today put on a smile and appeaer to be jovial as we go to work, but our reality is just the opposite?
